We Got a Puppy!

Yup. As of 4:30 yesterday, Jose and I became the proud owners of the cutest puppy ever! We've been talking about getting a dog from the shelter some time in the future, but on Easter, my sister-in-law, Kitty, told me about an acquaintance of hers who unexpectedly had a litter of 12 puppies on her hands. I was pretty set on getting a rescue/shelter dog, but when I came home and looked up pictures of Lab/Weimaraner mix puppies, I totally gave in! Since the puppies were in Sacramento, Kitty and my neices went to see the dogs for us on Friday, picked out a couple of their favorites and texted me photos. We picked out a little black female, they marked her belly with a red 'A' and the the next morning they picked her up and brought her down to San Francisco where we were all getting together for Kitty, Amy, and my brthdays! It's funny, I got my last dog, Riley, on my birthday 13 years ago! He was a great dog, so maybe it's a good sign. She's still so little and sleeps a lot, but I have a feeling she's going to have lots of personality, just like he did.

It's going to be a lot of work (I'm convinced she must have the worlds smallest bladder since she pees all the time!) but we're pretty excited. Now if we could just come up with a good name...

ps...As I type this, she's sleeping next to me, twitching and letting out tiny little barks. I wonder if she's chasing something in her dream!

We Have A Kitchen!!!

Finally, after 6 months without a functioning kitchen the wait is over. This was a big week. Friday, my coworkers installed the butcher block counters and the appliances were delivered. The counters look amazing, especially with the farmhouse sink. Today, as I type, our friend Angel is finishing up the installation of all our appliances (range, hood, sink/faucet, and dishwasher). On Sunday, I actually went grocery shopping for real food and it felt great. No more microwave and hotplate! The kitchen finally looks like it's supposed to. There are still a few details to be finished (tile backsplash, painting the walls, new lights, hanging the upper cabinet doors...) but all the functional part is done. I must say that it's all turning our exactly how I imagined it. It's quaint, cozy, and feels like it should have been an original part of the house. Rejuvenation (a lighting and house parts store based in Portland) is having a home remodeling contest, and I'm thinking about entering the kitchen if we complete everything by the deadline (hmmm, which is May 1st...maybe a bit soon). Who knows? It could be fun, and the $1,000 gift certificate wouldn't be bad! We'll see. For now, I'm just happy with cooking our own food!

ps...Don't worry, the walls aren't going to be green too! It's just overspray from the cupboards being painted! The walls will be Rich Cream and the backsplash will be white subway tiles...soon.

Love Birds

Spring is definitely in the air! A few days ago I noticed a couple little finch-like birds built a nest up in the corner of our front porch. I climbed up there today and there were two cute little eggs nestled in some yarn and twigs. I can't wait til the hatch, then there'll be little chirpy baby birds!

*Update: Mama bird now has 4 eggs! I spy on her through the little windows in my from door and watch her wiggle herself down into the nest till only her tail and little head are visible!
