A man knocked on our door tonight and offered us $1,500.00 for our palm tree in the front yard. That's what he does for a living--drives around and finds mature palm trees for landscape jobs that need them. I have to admit, it's tempting. I didn't like the tree at all when we first saw the house. It's a beautiful tree, but I'm just not a palm tree type of girl. But it's kind of grown on me. It's huge (26 ft), blocks the view of the power lines, and adds a bit of character. I'm going to plant a native oak woodland garden under regardless of whether it stays or goes, but maybe we could use that money to buy a decent sized oak to put in its place. I told my neighbor about the offer and he said "you're not going to do it are you?!?" I just don't know! Jose says he's ok with selling it. What do we do??

Palm Tree Dilemma

I'm not much of a palm tree person either unless I'm in Hawaii (then I love them). But I really like your tree now. It frames the house, and seems to suit the bungalow style. I vote to keep it.
Yeah, I think I'm too chicken to take it out. Had he of offered right when we bought the house, I probably would have taken him up, but now it's a lot harder. Tearing out any mature, established tree is a hard decision. As much as I would love a large oak there, I think the palm will have to stay.
might as well keep it for now. once you have a grand scheme for your front yard and want a change, you could always seek out a buyer. besides, how else will you give people directions for finding your place?
sell the palm and buy a beautiful fruitless olive tree!! Jerry saw one at the nursery here the other day. only $400.00..so you will have change leftover!
